De tv-serie "24" en de TNT miniserie "Into the West" hebben de meeste Emmy nominaties gekregen voor het beste tv-drama van afgelopen jaar. De Fox serie 24 met Kiefer Sutherland als de eigenzinnige CTU-agent Jack Bauer kreeg 12 nominaties, terwijl Into the West 16 nominaties kreeg. In de categorie beste serie werden ook genomineerd: "Grey’s Anatomy", "House, M.D.", "The Sopranos" en "The West Wing".
In de categorie beste comedyserie gaan "Arrested Development", "The Office", "Scrubs", "Two and a Half Men" en "Curb Your Enthusiasm" de strijd met elkaar. De grote winnaars van vorige jaar, "Lost" en "Desperate Housewives", werden dit jaar niet genomineerd. Beide series maakten een sterke indruk, maar vielen als kaartenhuisjes in elkaar in hun tweede seizoen. De winaars van de Emmy’s 2006 worden op 27 augustus bekend gemaakt.
